Deceased Name: Pearl S. Ostroviak

Pearl S. Ostroviak, 83, of Duluth, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008 at Edgewood Vista, formerly of 7th Ave E. She was born Oct. 14, 1924 in Duluth to Leo and Tillie (Bergal) Lees. She was a lifetime resident of Duluth. She married Benjamin Ostroviak and was a homemaker. Pearl enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, baking and spending time with her family. She also loved her dogs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin in 1996. Pearl is survived by her daughter, Judith (Gerald) Cohen; sister, Ida Lees both of Duluth; two grandchildren, Joseph (Tina) Cohen of Chisholm, Minn., and Shawn (Chris Geboe) Cohen of Duluth; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Beyonce Cohen; and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Deceased Name: Benjamin "Ben" Ostroviak

Benjamin "Ben" Ostroviak, 74, North Seventh Avenue East, died Saturday, June 8, 1996, in the Benedictine Health Center.

 

Born in Minneapolis, he lived most of his life in Duluth. He married Pearl Lees on Nov. 19, 1944. He was a car man for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1985.

 

He was a Coast Guard/Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Temple Israel, Disabled American Veterans, VFW Post 137 and NARVE.

 

His parents were Harry and Rebecca Chinsky Ostroviak.

 

Surviving are his wife, Pearl; a daughter, Judith Cohen of Duluth; a brother, Israel Ostroviak of Kansas; and two grandchildren.

 

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday in Johnson Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in Shaara Tzedek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
